A 24-year-old Chinese national has reportedly gone missing after travelling from Malaysia to Thailand, and her last known whereabouts have raised serious concerns.
According to reports, Qi Ming (祁萌) had spent about a week travelling in Kuala Lumpur before flying to Bangkok on 2 August aboard Malaysia Airlines flight MH784.
Disappeared after accepting a ride from a stranger
After arriving at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Qi allegedly accepted a ride from a stranger who claimed they were “heading to Chiang Mai anyway” and offered to drive her there.
According to Hong Kong 01, Qi got into the vehicle, which was the last time her family heard from her.
Her friend, Chen Ze, reportedly stated that the family grew increasingly worried after failing to reach her. Online appeals for assistance have since circulated, with one post claiming Qi’s family was so distressed that a relative fell ill and required hospitalisation, though this detail remains unverified.
There are also unverified claims that Qi may have planned the overseas trip with someone she had only recently met online.
Chinese Embassy confirms that Qi’s family sought assistance
The Chinese Embassy in Thailand confirmed on 11 August that Qi’s family had reached out for help. The embassy reportedly explained the procedures and requirements for filing a report with Thai police and stated it will continue providing the necessary support to the family.
However, authorities have not confirmed several details circulating online, and the appeals posted on social media have yet to provide concrete evidence supporting some of the claims.
For now, Qi’s whereabouts remain unknown as investigations continue. Anyone with credible information regarding her location is urged to contact the relevant authorities.
