On March 5, a 20-year-old lady’s calf was cut by what appeared to be a metal plate when she was on an escalator at Sunway Pyramid.

The accident has left Malaysian’s jaw-dropping due to the severity of the wound.

According to the management of Sunway Pyramid, the victim is being taken care of at a nearby hospital and is on her way to recovery.

“As investigation continues on the escalator incident that took place approximately around 3.45pm on 5thMarch, the Management of Sunway Pyramid reassures that the 20-year-old student involved is recovering well and is currently in good care at a nearby hospital. The mall management wishes her well and hopes she has a speedy recovery.”

Following the incident, the management had collaborated with OTIS and Department of Occupational Safety and Health to look into the cause of accident.

The findings revealed that prior to the accident, there’s been misuses of the escalator involving baby strollers and other lack of escalator etiquette. Guys, escalator was meant for humans, not for baby strollers.

These irresponsible actions are believed to be the contributing factors in aggravating the escalator. Pity the young lady who suffered the consequences due to other’s fault.

As a measure that such incidents will not happen again, they said,

“Moving forward, Sunway Pyramid will be introducing unipoles at all escalator take-offs and landings to curb strollers, trolleys, wheelchairs or any form of similar items from the escalator.

“The mall management would also like to take this opportunity to remind all escalator users to follow the rules of the escalators such as to face forward and stand between the yellow lines instead of leaning against the moving handrails.”
