If you think face masks are in short-supply, then you should see the supply of hand sanitisers or antiseptics. Or should we say, lack of supply. As you’ve probably known by now, our insistence on constant hygiene in the past couple of months has led to a complete depletion of stock for both items, as manufacturers struggle to cope with the new demand for product. In fact, many major pharmacies and supermarkets seem to have very little, if not nothing left.

According to Astro Awani, an altercation recently broke out in a Chinese supermarket after shoppers were trying to scramble for the last remaining bottle of sanitiser, as panic and paranoia continues to leave mainland Chinese residents concerned over the spread and transmission of Covid-19.

But what people did not expect to see is a 17-year-old teenage girl stabbing two other people who were trying to also grab for the bottle of sanitiser! What makes it all the worse is when you realise who the victims were:

A 71-year-old elderly man and a nine-year-old young girl. Did that not even cross her mind?

Local authorities have since arrested the offender, and both victims are said to be in stable condition in hospital. However, this highlights the fact that paranoia and hysteria has gripped much of the Chinese population after the Wuhan novel coronavirus outbreak, which begs the question as to how far people are now willing to go to keep themselves ‘protected’ from the virus?

We’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone reading that the best way by far and wide is still to wash your hands always, and if you’re mildly sick, stay home and rest! Stay safe everyone!
