14yo Boy Tragically Killed After Being Crushed by a Falling Tree While Resting on a Bridge in Johor

A 14-year-old boy tragically lost his life after being crushed by a palm tree in Johor on Tuesday (July 15).

According to Harian Metro, the incident occurred while the teenager was resting on a bridge in Parit Katik, Sanglang Ayer Baloi, when the tree fell and struck him.

He had accompanied a friend who was working on digging a ditch

Pontian District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib, said the incident occurred at around 11:30 AM while the teenager was resting on a bridge after accompanying a friend who was carrying out ditch-digging work.

He added that further examination revealed no criminal elements involved in the incident.

“The victim was crushed by a falling palm tree while resting on the bridge. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was taken to the Forensic Unit at Pontian Hospital for a post-mortem,” he explained.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward

Mohammad Shofee stated that the case has been classified as a sudden death.

He also urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Investigating Officer Sergeant Major Mohd Aziz Othman at 019-7973696 or reach out to the Pontian District Police Headquarters (IPD) via their hotline at 07-6869999.
