During a recent press conference held with the media yesterday, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has said that one to two areas in Selangor may be put under stringent measures like what has been done in Simpang Renggam, Johor, due to the high concentration of Covid-19 cases, according to Free Malaysia Today and The Edge Markets.

According to the Director-General, the current state with the highest number of cases presently is Selangor, which may indicate a necessity to increase measures taken to prevent the spreading of Covid-19 in the state.

“So, we are looking into the zones we have identified. Perhaps, in one or two zones, we will take similar action like that in Simpang Renggam.” he said.

So far, the identified red zones in Selangor are Petaling (223 cases), Hulu Langat (209 cases), Gombak (59 cases), and Klang (62 cases), according to the breakdown provided by the Ministry of Health as of 29th March 2020.

Simpang Renggam in Johor has been put under an Enhanced Movement Control Order, which restricts movements of inhabitants even further, while nobody is allowed to enter or leave the area. So far, 97 cases of Covid-19 have been reported from the region.

In separate news, the government will also be postponing the post-basic courses of 3,000 nurses and medical assistants in order to mobilise them to the frontlines in the fight against Covid-19.
