Yesterday, it was announced that GE 15 will be held on November 19, 2022, Saturday.

As politicians gear up for the upcoming month of campaigns, jailed former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will have to sit out this time.

However, his dear daughter, Nooryana Najwa Najib, is not one to go down without a fight.

In a recent Instagram post, Nooryana questioned why her dad is not allowed to campaign for GE 15 from jail when opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was able to do so in 2015 while serving time in prison.

“Why was Anwar able to but Najib is not allowed to?”

“Is it because he’s Najib?” Nooryana asked in her post along with screenshots of two news articles.

One article from May 2015 was about Anwar showing support for and “campaigning” with his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who was then-PKR president when Anwar was jailed for a second sodomy charge.

The other article was from yesterday and states that Najib is not allowed to issue campaign statements from prison, quoting Prisons Department senior director Supri Hashim.

As of now, Najib still holds the Pekan constituency and his Facebook account remains active. It is believed that the account is being run by his account administrator who posts regular updates and comments attacking opposition politicians.

In July 2020, Najib was convicted of corruption involving funds from SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

In August this year, the court found him guilty. He has to serve 12 years in jail and pay a RM210 million fine while also facing trial in other 1MDB-related cases.

Hopefully the ex-premier is not feeling too much of FOMO!
