60 is the age of retirement and it is at this age when the elderly start to take things easier.

However, Rev. Teo How Ken, aged 62, thinks that it is not the age for him to retire but rather to “refire”!

He is also a person who believes that you can do anything regardless of your age if you put your mind to it.

Just recently on 1 March 2022, he received his PhD in Marketplace Theology after completing his thesis.

“We’re never too old to learn,” he said.

During the whole period when he was writing his thesis, he was also managing a home for children and the aged, Rumah Charis. As he had so many responsibilities, it took him 5 whole years to complete his paper.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ via his daughter, Annice, he said,

“There were a lot of things going on. I had to care about my household, my work and investment projects. So I had to work on my thesis early in the morning and during quiet evenings while also meeting people for the research.”

He had to be disciplined and take one step at a time.

Although he has reached this goal of getting his PhD, he is showing no signs of stopping as his future plans consist of organising charity projects and initiatives for senior citizens and children in need.

Other than that, he has also shared with us his secret to success.

“Ask yourself, what skills do you need to learn? No matter your age, investing in new skills for yourself is a good use of your time; life-long learning is the key to success.”

Building on that, he upholds this Mandarin saying:

“吃到老、學到老、活到老和做到老” which directly translates to “Eat till old, learn till old, live till old and work till old.”

Well, this is certainly a very inspiring story! When we reach of age, we hope that we will still have this thirst for knowledge like Rev. Teo.
