Although RFID has recently seen its fair share of issues when it comes to toll booths, it seems that more and more of our cashless payments in relation to our cars are now available.

Last year, Touch ‘n Go (TNG) eWallet officially rolled out its TNG RFID fuelling pilot programme at selected petrol stations in collaboration with Shell Malaysia allowing registered customers to pay for their fuel at petrol bays using the TNG RFID and eWallet.

But, we had no idea on what the process looked like since it was limited to those who have registered under the pilot programme.

However, a viral TikTok video by a user named Iivan Wang has now showed the process!

In the video, Wang shows the Shell station which is equipped with RFID sensors to enable you to refuel.

All you have to do is to activate fueling on your TNG eWallet app by clicking on the Shell icon and insert the amount. You can even link your BonusLink card to earn points!

All you have to do is make sure that your car is facing towards the RFID reader as you drive up to the fuelling bay and wait for the LED screen to display the nozzle icon.

Once it does, you have 80 seconds to start fuelling up. When you’re done, you just return the nozzle, and drive off, that’s it!

According to Shell, there are only currently 5 Shell stations which support RFID refueling.

These are:

  • Shell Bandar Sri Menjalara
  • Shell Mint Hotel
  • Shell NKVE Damansara
  • Shell Taman Connaught
  • Shell TTDI
