While Ukraine & Russia are still at war, Uncle Roger has caught himself under fire for a recent joke that he had made by saying “adding some Ukraine dates to his world tour.”

Most of the people have asked him to apologise for the insensitive joke and if you’re one of them, you may be disappointed. Uncle Roger has assured the people that he will NOT apologise.

In his latest podcast which was released yesterday (2 March), he said that it has been an exciting week despite being in a “Twitter shitstorm” for the Ukraine joke. While acknowledging that a lot of people are expecting an apology from him, he casually said,

“I’m not apologising, by the way. My stand on apology is to apologising when you do something wrong but not for unfunny jokes.”

Uncle Roger or his real name Nigel Ng admitted that it was a bad joke but he says “shit stuff” on his podcasts all the time. He believes that if he were to say sorry, half of his podcasts would be apologies and that would be boring.

“I’ve joked about paedophilia, Covid-19, kids getting touched & stuff, so you can’t apologise every week. It’s really boring content,” he explained.

He added that it is only a matter of time before he says something “insensitive” again and that is why he will not constantly apologise. As for the Ukraine jokes, he asserted that the whole world is actually making memes about Ukraine and bombing jokes.

“You know who you should be mad at for bombing? Putin! Get mad at him! I’m just a lonely comedian. What can I do?”

As people have told him that war jokes are not funny, he does not seem to think so. He thinks that war jokes can be funny if done the right way, just like how he had made jokes about 9/11, World War II and Covid-19. However, he admitted that he is not saying the Ukraine date tweet was funny but he found a way to make it funny.

You can watch and listen to the podcast below where he talks about the tweet during the first 8 minutes.

Uncle Roger’s deleted tweet about Ukraine dates has received mixed responses as some believe he owes no one an apology. Do you think war and death jokes are appropriate?
