Uncle Kentang Overwhelmed By Calls For Help, Feels Powerless As He’s Unable To Save Everyone

In times of great desperation and weakness like this pandemic, we can truly see who is willing to go the extra mile to help others in need. But these heroes are still human and an overwhelming amount of calls for help can take a toll on anyone’s mental health.

Kuan Chee Heng, also known as Uncle Kentang, took to his Facebook page to share how he feels overwhelmed by the number of calls he’s been receiving, of which 90% are related to Covid-19 and death.

He said that he’s been getting so much negative information that he doesn’t want to answer the phone.

“All this negative information makes me tired and powerless,” he said.

“I don’t like the feeling of being unable to help. This feeling of helplessness puts me under heavy psychological pressure.”

He goes on to say that he recently received a call for help with funeral expenses from someone whose father had just passed away, and now his mother-in-law as well.

“It’s so sad when a child loses their parents and is helpless and crying.”

“Shouldn’t the relevant authorities do something?”

Netizens flooded the comments with comfort and encouragement for Uncle Kentang:

  • “Uncle Kentang. Don’t overstress yourself. We know it is easier said than done but do try. Life goes on and you are one of the best people on earth.”
  • “Stay strong. You are human only but a kind, helpful, resourceful, understanding human. You will rebound stronger as you are an inspiration of what a Malaysian should be!”
  • “You did your best, it’s okay if you can’t help all of them, but you’re still the hero among Malaysian citizens.”
  • “We are very lucky to have Uncle Kentang and your team in Malaysia. You have made a great contribution to this country, thank you for your effort! You must take good care of yourself. I also hope that the Malaysian government will implement more measures for people’s livelihood and to control the pandemic.”
  • “Stay strong bro. In these difficult times, many face huge loss and grief. You are truly the pillar to the needy. God bless the hands of the one who blesses others.”
