Life is undeniably tough at times, and we find ourselves doing whatever it takes to survive, even if it means putting our pride and dignity aside.

Recently, a video of an uncle who sells tissue packs at a traffic light junction in KL caught the attention of many Malaysians.

In the video that has gone viral on social media, the uncle is seen kneeling and bowing so low that his head touches the ground, and he does that to an Axia driver just to “beg” the latter to purchase the tissue packs from him.

However, when the uncle saw no signs of “purchase” from the Axia driver, he then got up and continued to try to sell his tissues to other drivers. According to a report by China Press, the incident took place at a traffic light junction in Kuchai Lama, KL.

“I would’ve purchased. Poor uncle”

The video, however, has gained mixed reactions online as Malaysians have had a lot of things to say about what they saw. Some expressed heartbreak over the uncle’s dedication and willingness to put aside his dignity for a sale.

A netizen said that she would’ve bought it given the circumstances. “If you were in his shoes, have you ever thought about what will make you beg on the road just for people to buy tissue packs from you? Not many will have the guts to do so.”

“I would’ve bought it. At least he tried and he is not robbing anyone,” commented another user.

“Just buy from him. It’s only a few ringgit. Consider this as helping an old man, and I don’t think he wanted to kneel and beg either. Maybe he really ran out of ways.”

“He’s actually rude”

On the other hand, some people who have allegedly encountered the uncle shared their experiences in the comments section, but instead of showing sympathy, they had something else to say.

“He was right outside my car, I didn’t dare to roll down my windows, and that was when he kicked my door and yelled at me,” shared a user.

The netizen also said that a motorcyclist “came to the rescue” and gave him some money, however the uncle insisted to take money from the driver.

“He made some hand gestures to tell me he was hungry. I gave him RM2, but he yelled at me with vulgarities, because it was only RM2.”

Another netizen suspected mental illness is at play as the uncle did the same thing to him in the past.

“I had only RM50, so I did not give him anything, and I wasn’t wearing a mask. And in return? I received a good scolding from him,” said another.

Another netizen said that the uncle allegedly used the money to indulge in alcohol. “He’ll use your money and get alcohol. I’ve seen him drinking.”

Would you have purchased the tissue packs from the uncle as a form of donation, or would you have ignored him if you happened to see him?
