A screenshot of a Twitter post declaring female cyclists to wear more ‘modest’ sports attire is gaining traction netizens react to the unrealistic suggestion. On June 7, a Twitter user posted his opinion that female cyclists should cover their modesty:
“Female cyclists, please feel a bit of shame. Male cyclists who are cycling behind you can see your ‘ASSets’ that’s sticking out. At least cover lah a bit. How about you try and find more appropriate clothes? It’s not wrong to go cycling. But do it the right way. This is just my opinion.”
The tweet later made rounds in social media where it has, as expected, caused an online furor as netizens were stunned by the suggestion.
“Adoi…Even looking at sports attires can make (one) aroused. I can’t believe it!” a netizen quipped humorously.
In Islam, the Qur’an instructs Muslim women and men to dress modestly, where Muslim girls and women wear the hijab or tudung to maintain modesty and privacy from unrelated males. Male netizens came to the rescue and reminded that men also need to cover their ‘aurat’ to preserve their modesty and that there are double standards.
Several Malaysians also agreed the problem does not necessarily lie with women but with the man, who should be averting his gaze instead and be a gentleman in his manners.
Some jokingly were keen to see what a more ‘appropriate’ cycling attire would look like for female cyclists, and this is how it would have turned out if the author’s suggestion had been cheekily implemented!
Some nicely advised what Muslim women should probably wear instead
In all seriousness, there is actually a slightly more proper female cyclist attire, as one netizen shares:

However, some netizens also agreed with the original poster, that in Islam, tight-fitting clothes are not meant to be worn and that all Muslims are required to observe their modesty, which has its purpose.
