Malaysia and Singapore are some of the most humid countries in the world, and especially during hot weather, it is advisable to stay indoors as the heat can be harmful to humans and even animals.

A video posted on a Facebook group, Chained Dog Awareness, on 2nd August shows a dog chained to the wall of a house in Singapore with a very short rope. The Japanese Spitz can be seen standing in the hot sun as it apparently tries to get into the shade, but struggles as it is held back by the short leash.

What’s worse is that the shaded area is just a few inches away from the dog, leaving it panting and fully exposed to the sun on a hot afternoon.

According to the post, the dog could not even lie down properly without the leash tugging at its neck, and the person taking the video also questioned if the dog was able to reach its water bowl just nearby.

“This poor dog was caught chained up (can’t even lie down properly) on a short leash overnight and only this afternoon, a neighbour decided to alert us on social media,” the post wrote.

“Poor dog was exposed to the hot afternoon sun for hours. Out of desperation, we climbed over the gate and released this dog from the leash.”

In the end, the admins of the page apparently climbed over the gate to set the dog free from its leash.

About two days after the video was posted, Chained Dog Awareness posted an update in the comments saying that The Animal & Veterinary Service arrived shortly after they released the dog from the rope and gave a “strict warning to the owner and a neighbour, who also agreed to continue to monitor the dog’s well-being”.

“We posted the video to highlight the dog’s plight after doing what we needed to do because we strongly believe that tethering a dog is inhumane, cruel and this is what happens when an owner carelessly leaves their dog on a chain exposing the animal to harm,” the post wrote.

“We wouldn’t want to trespass on private property if we have a choice. Due to a lack of legislation to protect this group of dogs they will continue to suffer unnecessarily.”

Watch the video here:

This is the reason why chaining a dog unsupervised should not be tolerated! How can someone have absolute stupidity (not to mention it’s inhumane and cruel) to chain a Japanese Spitz under the hot sun! This poor dog was caught chained up (can’t even lie down properly) on a short leash overnight and only this afternoon, a neighbour decided to alert us on social media. Poor dog was exposed to the hot afternoon sun for hours. Out of desperation, we climbed over the gate and release this dog from the leash. Avs arrived a little later and have left a calling card with this dumb and idiotic family. We hope this poor dog will never need to suffer again or mark our words: WE WILL UNLEASH HELL FOR THEM!And uploading this video is to make sure other owners are aware of the cruelty involved in chaining the dogs outdoor with zero consideration to the extreme weather condition in Singapore!

Who could be so cruel to this poor doggy? Good thing it was rescued from the hot sun before anything bad happened to it.
