He probably never thought that we would kena kantoi!

The police have recently arrested a marketing manager that lodged a fake report every year since 2013, claiming that his iPhone was either stolen or lost. According to FMT, he did this to deceive insurance companies and claim some money.

In his most recent report, the suspect claimed to have been robbed by two men on a motorcycle outside his mother-in-law’s house near Bukit Mertajam.

He alleged that his iPhone XS Max, which is Apple’s flagship model worth RM5,399 was stolen by the two men. On top of that, he said that he had lost an iPad Pro, a MacBook Pro and several other valuables amounting to over RM11,000 in total.

Central Seberang Perai police chief Nik Ros Nik Abdul Hamid said the man’s intentions were exposed after the police noticed something suspicious from the suspect’s previous reports, dating all the way back to 2013.

All his reports had the same recurring pattern: lost iPhones.

After being interrogated, the suspect confessed to have been selling the iPhones and MacBooks on lowyat.net for some time now. After selling the items, he would lodge a stolen report in order to claim insurance. Sneaky!

He told the cops that he sold the iPhone for RM5,000 and the MacBook for RM6,000.

The funny thing is, the police even took the time to go to his mother-in-law’s house in Kampung Baru, Bukit Mertajam and actually found his ‘stolen’ MacBook Pro! Kantoi bang…

The man has since been remanded for five days to assist with investigations.

Looks like he managed to fool the police for about five years! Don’t get any ideas now, but do you know anyone else who resorts to this method to gain more money?
