The Skim Perubatan Madani (Madani Medical Scheme) was launched in June 2023 with the objective of reducing patient congestion in the Outpatient Department and Health Clinics of the Ministry of Health (KKM) in urban areas.

Despite it being an initiative to reduce congestion at government clinics, this programme helped many B40 community members to access hastened medical services at private clinics, though the scheme has now been refined and has only been implemented to 10 designated districts.

Muar MP Syed Saddiq took to his Twitter page to question the government’s decision to refine the scheme.

Scheme 2

He wrote, “The government says they want to protect the underprivileged. But they’ve withdrawn the medical scheme for poor families. What happened to the promised RM100 million allocation?”

“I appeal to the government, please listen to the people’s complaints.”

He also showcased a video in which he brought up this very issue in a recent Parliamentary session.

Scheme 3

“Last year, the government had implemented a very good and progressive medical scheme, which is the Madani Medical Scheme, where families that come from low income families, that family could receive RM250, individuals received RM75 and the elderly received RM150. This was to ensure access to quick medical services at private clinics.”

“And this initiative is worthy of praise. I went into the field and met with Muar residents who needed this access and helped them to register for it. The question is, suddenly, last week it was announced that this medical scheme has been stopped or limited from an entire country to only 10 areas. Thus, this will restrict the ability of a low-income family to access good healthcare,” he shared.

He went on to question why the government made such a decision and urged them to reinstate the scheme back for the entire country.

Scheme 1

He also enquired what the government will do with the RM100 million that was allocated for this scheme.
