Asians are full of superstitious beliefs. How often do you hear people saying “No, you can’t do this because pantang“?

For example, on the first day of Chinese New Year, we are not allowed to sweep the floor as it could ‘sweep all the luck away’. If you do, ghosts will come after you when you go out at night.

Well, these beliefs were probably created a long time ago just to scare people into doing things properly.

However, sometimes these superstitions can cause quite a lot of trouble, especially in this day and age. Case in point? When this extremely superstitious woman was so strict with her beliefs that it caused the death of a man!

According to Nextshark, rescuers in Taiwan were on their way to save an injured man in a back alley on August 11, 2017. The man was an electrician who fell from a height while installing an air-conditioner.

For the ambulance to reach the wounded electrician, the vehicle had to pass by the superstitious lady’s house. However, the lady was afraid that if the ambulance passed by her home, it would make it ‘unlucky’.

The delay lasted for about 15 minutes and when the man was finally brought to the hospital, he had unfortunately passed on.

The reason the woman was so obsessed about not letting her house become ‘unlucky’ was due to the ‘unlucky house database’, an online portal that lists down houses where bad incidences have occurred.

Yes, an actual website dedicated to naming properties with terrible luck!

In Taiwan, houses where unnatural deaths have taken place are regarded as unlucky and will be added into that database. Being ‘unlucky’ would, of course, make the price of the property go down.

These incidents also include murder cases, suicide, and accidental deaths. In the Taiwanese law, whoever is selling their house must declare if their property is listed as unlucky.

Of course, it is possible to remove the ‘bad luck’ status from the house but they must first go through some pretty drastic transformations. #Fengshui

Although it is terrible to be labelled ‘unlucky’ over some unforeseen circumstances, what this lady did completely crossed the line.

There are no reports of whether the lady will be held responsible for delaying the ambulance and ultimately causing the death of the man.

Do you think she went a little overboard with her superstitions?
