Wednesday’s (January 4) 2022 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup Group B match between Malaysia and Singapore left plenty of local fans happy following the 4-1 result at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil. It was even reported that a record of 65,147 fans were present for the Causeway Derby.

Whilst the sentiment of supporters for the Harimau Malaya appear to be at a high, recent issues with the scheduling of events at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium has perhaps left some fans disappointed for tonight’s upcoming match between Malaysia and Thailand.

However, fret not, as the Sports Ministry has appeared to have found a slight solution to the issue. In a post shared by Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, she announced that the ministry will be preparing big screens in 14 different locations all over the country.

“This is to ensure that the rakyat can enjoy Malaysia’s action against Thailand. Hopefully this strong support will take Harimau Malaya to the final stage.”

In a poster shared by Yeoh, she listed down the various locations where the big screen would be installed. This includes:

  1. Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur
  2. Perbadanan Putrajaya, Presint 3, Putrajaya
  3. Kompleks Belia & Sukan Batu Uban, Pulau Pinang
  4. Meow Garden, Ulu Kinta, Perak
  5. Laman MBPJ, Petaling Jaya, Selangor
  6. Dataran Kemerdekaan, Shah Alam, Selangor
  7. Perkarangan Majlis Perbandaran Sepang, Selangor
  8. Dataran Stadium Kajang, Selangor
  9. Dataran Tanah Lesen, Sungai Air Tawar, Sabak Bernam, Selangor
  10. Kompleks Belia & Sukan Paroi, Negeri Sembilan
  11. Restoran Al Marjan MITC, Ayer Keroh, Melaka
  12. Dewan Bandaraya Kuantan, Pahang
  13. MYDIN Petrajaya, Kuching, Sarawak
  14. Padang Merdeka, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

She also urged netizens to spread the word and retweet her post so that more Malaysians are aware of the initiative.

A good initiative!

The post has since caught traction and gained the support of netizens. Plenty took to the comments section to show their appreciation towards the efforts of Yeoh and the ministry.

“Hasn’t even been a month yet since you’ve been the minister but there has been a lot of output already.”

“We only requested for a screen outside of the stadium, but you’ve gone above and beyond by having big screens at 14 places. Keep up your good work YB,” said another user.

Meanwhile, some users asked why certain states and capitals were not included in the list of places. States such as Johor, Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan and Terengganu were omitted from the initiative.

Regardless of it, kudos to the ministry and the minister for initiating the programme. We hope that with this, more Malaysians would come out tonight and show their support to the Harimau Malaya!
