It was supposed to be good news for this happily married couple that they could finally get the baby they have been waiting for so long. However, things took a turn for the worse when the new mother, 36-year-old Chen Yinghua from Melaka who is currently living in Singapore, slipped into a coma.

According to Lianhe Zaobao, Chen was finally pregnant with their long-awaited daughter after experiencing a traumatic miscarriage in the past. But two weeks ago on July 18, she was nauseous and experienced bouts of vomiting along with a fever.

Thinking that it was only a normal bout of flu, Chen decided to go to the gynaecologist for a check-up nevertheless. That was when she realised that it was not the common flu, as the doctor discovered that she had an abnormally high blood pressure and her foetus’ heartbeat was unusually slow.

Panicked, the pregnant mother was quickly rushed into the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Her 32-year-old brother tearfully told reporters, “The doctors told my sister that they have to do a C-section immediately to remove the baby or both she and the baby would be in danger.”

An emergency C-section was done and the baby was born prematurely, weighing only 800g. That’s extremely light! The baby is currently still in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) but luckily, her condition has stabilised.

Unfortunately for the mother, it was discovered that she was suffering from a bacteria infection, which ultimately led to a liver failure. 🙁

According to Stomp, her brother described the illness as a shock to everyone even though she had Hepatitis B because she was still very healthy before the pregnancy. He said, “On the day she gave birth, she (my sister) was still talking to us, but (she) suddenly became so quiet that evening. She fell into a coma the following evening.”

The brother also said that they are currently looking for a suitable organ donor as his sister needs a liver transplant to stay alive but they are equally worried that they cannot afford her mounting hospital bills.

Such a sad incident to befall the new mother. Our prayers go out to the family and hope that they are able to find a new donor in time!
