The first date is often the most important date. It’s not only about meeting each other for the first time but also your actions and words will leave an impression.

But when it comes to paying the bill, should both parties go dutch or should the man pay for the bill on the 1st date? Generally, a man would usually settle the bill on the 1st date but at times, there are women who don’t mind paying for the date too! However, a woman from the USA has recently decided to stop seeing a guy after only a date because he did not pay for her coffee.

According to a screenshot of the conversation shared on Reddit, when asked for the reason the woman wanted to end things, the woman said it’s a common courtesy for a man to pay the bill on the 1st date.

“You didn’t even try to do so or even offer to. I wouldn’t have let you, I have my own money but I need to see efforts and consciousness from a man. You have none of that,” the woman explained.

She also thinks that the man is not serious & lazy and the fact that he asked for the reason proved her intuition was right all along. She then told him that she is not looking for a one-sided relationship where she does all the “heavy lifting”.

For a USD5 (approximately RM21) cup of coffee, the man thinks that the woman is being ridiculous.

You’re better off without her

At the time of writing, the comment is filled with more than 4,900 comments where most of the netizens said that they think it’s better it ended early.

Do you think men should pay on the first date, or is it wise to go dutch to see where things are going?
