It is amazing that racism and segregation are still such prominent problems in 2017.

On August 11, 2017, Ayus Fairus brought her South Korean friend, Hana* to Malacca for a lovely tour.

While they were in Pahlawan Walk for some shopping, the Korean girl was super attracted to the batik printed pants, Lobak Merah reported.

Hana bought 5 pieces from different stores and finally she chanced upon the very last store where she bought her 6th piece. Since she was just too tired from all the shopping prior, she chose a pattern she liked without trying it on.

That night at the hotel, Hana realised that the very last pair of pants which she bought without trying earlier didn’t fit well. So the next day, they went back to the same stall to ask for an exchange.

That was when one of the most foul person was met.

In Ayus’ Facebook post, she wrote,

“After I explained about the pants, the auntie made a face; but, I was patient and just ignored (her face).

“My friend chose a different pants and told the auntie that she wants to try it. She didn’t allow. She said that trying is not allowed. All the clothes in her shop cannot be tried.”

So, Ayus told Hana to just choose one because she can’t try them on. At the same time, a local family walked in and the auntie actually allowed them try the clothes on.

Baffled by the double standard treatment, Ayus pried the lady for an explanation. The horrible lady’s answer would make any sane person’s blood boil.

The auntie said,

“We don’t know what her sweat is like, kid; what she eats. People don’t want to buy the pants anymore after a person like her has tried them on.

“Even the pants you brought back to exchange can’t be sold anymore because she has tried them on.

“You don’t get it, kid. She can’t try them. She’s a foreigner. She is not Muslim. Her sweat and her skin is not like ours.

“We don’t know what she eats and what she drinks. You need to care about these things, kid!”

Ayus just could not believe the words that came out of this lady’s mouth. She was beyond infuriated but thankfully, she still managed to keep her cool.

She replied,

“This is the first time I met a person like you who differentiate people based on their religion.

“If that’s the case, I think it is better you return her money, because we don’t know where she got her money from right? Halal or not?”

Shamelessly, the woman said that she cannot return the cash as it wasn’t much money.

“The item is only RM25, not even RM250. Just choose whichever pants and exchange it. You wanna try, then go ahead and try. If it doesn’t fit, you still have to take it anyway.”

When Hana had found a suitable pair of pants, Ayus grabbed her hand and dragged her out of the store. Ayus was so pissed off that her voice was shaking.

Due to the language barrier, Hana obviously didn’t understand what was going on at all. However, she did notice the angry look on Ayus’ face.

Hana questioned Ayus about what had happened but Ayus just didn’t want to hurt her friend. So she just said the shopkeeper didn’t allow Hana to try on the pants because she wasn’t Muslim.

Hana felt disappointed that Ayus didn’t tell her earlier because she would have flipped the bird and walked out of the shop without doing the exchange.

Well, of course showing the middle finger like that would have only caused more trouble. However, it is just so bewildering that such racist and illogical people still exist today!
