Following the restricted movement order released by Malaysia’s PM, all offices and business have been requested to be shut down, with a few important exceptions, till the end of March.

Earlier today (17th March), a report by Sinchew stated that the President of Malaysia-Singapore Coffee and Tea Federation, He Zimeng, noted that all domestic tea restaurants in Malaysia will start a ‘semi-open’ mode beginning tomorrow (18th March). This will mean that dining in will not be permitted, but you can tapau (packing) and take-away(s) will be allowed.

The association, which has more than 20,000 members country wide, issued a statement in line with the government’s instructions saying that coffee shops and store stalls can be categorised as ‘half-opened’ for business.

“Customers are not allowed to sit and chat in the store, but they are allowed to provide take-out and delivery services until the 31st of this month,”, he added.

Zimeng also noted that this would be a first-time-business-method that shops will be incorporating as a means to cooperate with the government’s latest initiatives. He also said that this is merely a temporary emergency step and people should be patient as well as hope that this soon comes to an end.
