In a recent survey that was conducted by Emir Research, they found that 65 per cent of Malaysians supported Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the Prime Minister of their choice based on the research that was done in August 2020.

Other candidates include former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Dato’ Seri Hadi Awang and Dato’ Seri Azmin Ali.

As you can see, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin seems to be holding a much stronger majority compared to other candidates.

In the same poll, it was stated that the support for UMNO was as high as that for DAP among the Chinese respondents.

The respondents for this were “principle-based” which refers to something being “morally correct”. The study was conducted with various research methodologies involving 2,096 respondents.

Why are Malaysians unhappy with this poll?

Malaysian netizens expressed their concerns and doubts regarding the poll over Twitter mainly around its validity. For one, many feel that with a population of 32.7 million in the country 2,096 respondents is simply not enough.
