Paedophiles lurk everywhere and the scariest part about that is that it could be someone that you really trust with your child.

Recently, a shocking case of child rape made headlines in India because the young rape victim got pregnant and was denied an abortion from the court.

The incident happened in Chandigarh, India and the court made the decision on Tuesday for the 10-year-old girl to carry her foetus to term. According to the Straits Times, the court ruled that the girl was too young and her pregnancy was unfortunately too advanced to go through with an abortion safely.

Her parents brought her to the doctor when she complained about suffering from abdominal pains. After checking, the doctor confirmed that she was six months pregnant based on ultrasound reports. Wtf?!

After her distressed parents found out about their little daughter’s pregnancy, she made another shocking revelation and reportedly told her parents that she was raped by her maternal uncle. The incident happened at least half a dozen times when he visited their home. The parents made a police report and asked the court for an abortion while the police arrested the uncle.

The decision was reached by the district court after a panel of eight doctors from the city’s Government Medical College and Hospital concluded that if the girl had an abortion, then the risk to her life would be greater than carrying the foetus to term.

In fact, the 1970 Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act forbids abortions beyond 20 weeks, but there are exceptions based on certain circumstances. A senior doctor said, “Abortion is not an option at this stage,” as they explained that the foetus could survive even if it was delivered now.

Her case shocked medical professionals in India because even though it is possible for a girl to get pregnant as soon as she begins ovulating, it’s still extremely rare for someone so young. It is also very dangerous for a girl younger than 15 years old to deliver a baby as she could suffer from life-threatening complications since her body is not physically capable to carry a baby safely to term.

Umesh Jindal, a gynecologist from the American Society of Reproductive Medicine told Times of India, “If legal permission is granted treating it as an exceptional case, it’s better to terminate the pregnancy.”

Puneet Bedi, a Delhi-based gynecologist, also said, “An abortion needs to be done immediately. Yes, there are risks and abortion at this stage is tough, but for the girl who is still developing, the scars will be many.”

Another similar case happened in Haryana, India earlier this year as well where another 10-year-old girl was raped repeatedly by her stepfather, but the court allowed her to have an abortion at 21 weeks. What’s wrong with these perverts?

BBC said that India has the highest number of sexually abused children worldwide as it was reported that more than 10,000 children were victims of rape in 2015 and their rapists were often someone they knew.

What a sad, traumatising thing to happen to someone so young. 🙁
