Most Malaysians will have a friend who has gone across the causeway to work and earn in Singapore. RM3=1SGD is quite appealing.

As the saying goes, the grass is greener on the other side and a Singaporean man recently shared his opinion where he said that working in Malaysia is better than in Singapore.

In a TikTok video by Hasan Ithnin, Tuan Haiyum Salim, 30, a business consultant, said that working in both countries is actually the same.

Work In Malaysia Better

“If we think about it, the minimum wage in Singapore is SGD1,500 and Malaysia’s minimum wage is RM1,500. The Singaporean value seems bigger because of the conversion rate,” he said.

“Why I say it’s the same is because those working in Singapore will need spend their money in Singapore on food, MRT, bus, etc.”

He noted that the difference is based on the quality of life. Comparing his friends who earn minimum wage in Malaysia and his other friends who earn minimum wage in Singapore, he says that those in Malaysia have a life.

“Those in Malaysia have the time for their family and friends while those in Singapore might only see their child once a week.”

The business consultant who was born and raised in Singapore stressed that this is his opinion and that his priority is to have enough time for his family and friends while facing less stress.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, he says that he does not regret his choice as he gets to spend quality time with his wife, child and friends. Whatever leftover time is used for his hobbies.

At the end of the day, it really depends on what you want in life. For those who need money, going to Singapore and living in Malaysia might be the better choice. The right answer is what you need and there is no one-size-fits-all in this.
