At 27, this Malaysian mother is proving that it’s never too late to chase a dream, even one she thought she had lost 10 years ago.
Her heartfelt post on Threads (@amirasyedali) about returning to sit for the SPM exams as an adult candidate struck a chord with netizens, garnering over 8,600 likes from people inspired by her determination.

“Ya Allah taking SPM at 27 is not for the weak. I feel so stupid right now,” she wrote.
“Giving up on high school haunted me every single day”
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Amira opened up about what led her to take the leap and register for the national examinations a decade after leaving high school behind.
“I gave up on high school 10 years ago, and honestly, that’s something that has haunted me almost every day since. I knew I had so much potential when I was younger, but I gave up on that version of myself, and I think a part of me has always regretted it.” she shared.
The emotional burden of walking away from her education at a young age lingered for years, leaving her with a persistent feeling of unfinished business regarding her own potential.
Inspired by her children to set a positive example
While facing the dense SPM syllabus a decade later proved to be an uphill battle, Amira found her greatest source of strength and motivation right at home: her children.
“What really inspired me to take SPM this time around was my children.
“I don’t want to set that same example for them or have them grow up thinking that it’s okay to give up on themselves and their potential.” Amira explained to WORLD OF BUZZ.
Determined to break the cycle and instill strong values in her family, she chose to push through the self-doubt and show her children firsthand that education is a lifelong journey.
“I want to show them that it’s never too late to start something, and that education is important,” she added warmly.

“At least this time, I didn’t give up before trying”
Balancing adulthood, motherhood, and examination preparation comes with its own unique set of challenges, but Amira remains grounded and proud of the effort she is putting in.
“I honestly don’t know if I’m going to succeed, but at least this time, I didn’t give up before even trying,
“I’m trying my best, and I think that’s what matters most to me right now.” she said.
What an incredible reminder that age is just a number when it comes to self-improvement and pursuing your dreams!
