Former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has denied claims that he will be immediately released if Barisan Nasional (BN) wins the 15th General Elections (GE15).

His lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah shared that Najib was disappointed by the allegations and described them as baseless political propaganda despite being in prison, as shared in a report by Sinar Harian.

“Our client has consistently, since the beginning of his trial in 2018, wanted to be released through the judicial process in court because he not only wants to get freedom but to prove his integrity and legacy. Datuk Seri Najib is confident that his chance to be released from prison is through a judicial review application submitted in line with Rule 137 and the Federal Court Rules 1995,” he said.

Additionally, he explained that the review application is specifically based on the basis that the process and decision made by the Federal Court during his appeal, is denying his constitutional right to a fair judicial hearing.

Muhammad Shafee alleges that he was not given the opportunity to adequately prepare for the appeal process, resulting in them not being able to present arguments for the defense, thus leaving Najib without any effective defense representative in court.

“If this judicial review is in favor of our client, he will apply for a retrial under a more fair and balanced process to prove his innocence,” he added.

Stay tuned for more updates.
