Being a parent through the pandemic can be a scary thing. After all, not only would you have the fear of death upon testing positive, but you’d be separated from your kids.

That’s sadly, exactly what happened to a single father in Puchong.

Politician, Lee Khai Ming, took to his Facebook page to showcase two small siblings holding hands, in an effort to comfort each other, as they and their father were taken away in an ambulance due to Covid-19.

He wrote, “Single father of three was diagnosed. His children are five-years-old, three-years-old and the youngest is only a year old. He started to have difficulties with his breathing and was gasping. Today’s case is indeed, a bit difficult.”

He received a call from help from the children’s aunt at about 10.20pm and he found that the children were infected too, but they were asymptomatic.

“But what should I do if the single father and his three young children have been diagnosed? What’s more stressful is the beginning of the physical discomfort for the father. I called the father and my heart became very heavy. Because, during the conversation, I heard his misfortune and suffering, even the conversation was bitter,”

“He had to stop every two sentences to catch his breath.”

But, despite his suffering, he was very reluctant to be admitted to a hospital because he worried for his children.

“Fortunately, in the end, he compromised and was willing to go to the hospital for medical treatment. My last words to him were: You have to keep yourself alive, for the sake of your children,” he added.

And at about 2.30am, the father, along with his kids, were taken into an ambulance so that they could seek the help they need.

“The team also disinfected their home after all the confirmed cases were sent to the hospital. I wish them a speedy recovery,” he ended.

While it’s saddening that the family has to endure the COvid-19 virus and the treatments that come with it, we’re blessed to know that the kids clearly have each other’s backs and will take care of each other throughout the process.

We genuinely hope that they get well soon.
