Free ferry rides service has been extended!

According to Penang’s infrastructure and transport committee chairperson Zairil Khir Johari, the state’s free pedestrian ferry service has been extended until June 2023, starting today (1 Jan 2023). He added that this suggests that both land and water transportation in Penang is free for all Malaysians.

“The financing of ferry fares for pedestrian passengers involves an allocation of RM78,000 per month with a total of 65,000 tickets per month. The total funding is estimated at RM468,000 for the 6-month period of 2023,” he stated in his Facebook posting.

This program was launched on 1 July 2021 and received great response from Malaysians. To enjoy the free rides, Malaysians just need to bring their MyKad and tap on the MyKad scanner before boarding.
