A Malaysian man donated his entire lottery winnings, a whopping RM2.15 million, to his alma mater in an effort to give back to society.

According to a report by China Press, the self-employed man, who chose to remain anonymous, said that he had initially randomly bet on a set of 1+3D numbers and won a small prize of RM60. Upon claiming the RM60, he bet another RM10, placed the remaining RM50 note in his wallet and went on with his day.

Then, while performing prayers at home, he suddenly felt the need to make a promise to donate all of his prize money to his alma mater should he win again.

“If I win the lottery, I am willing to donate all the prize money to my alma mater,” he said.

After the prayer, he remembered the RM50 note in his wallet, took notice of the first three numbers of its serial number, 140, and felt that it was significant in some way.

“I can’t explain why, but I just think this set of numbers is very special.”

He proceeded to buy the 3+3D bonus with a combination of the number ‘140’ and chose the Chinese zodiac sign, Tiger. He later received a notification that the winning numbers were ‘410 + 140’ and the bonus animal was ‘Tiger’.

He had won the 3rd prize of RM2,151,664.

“I actually slapped myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming!”

He chose to fulfil his promise

Rather than using the money to travel the world or buy luxury goods, he decided to honour his promise to donate the entire prize money to his alma mater while also taking into account how his grandfather and great-grandfather were both educators and education advocates.

He didn’t even keep a small amount for himself!

What would you have done if you were in his shoes? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
