We can only imagine the pain and disappointment this father has to go through every day.

A 46-year-old man who loved his children very much was sadly abandoned after he was struck with a stroke. Now, he’s staying in Rumah Ehsan, a welfare home that specialises in providing care to senior citizens.

According to Sinar Harian, the man, who only wants to be known as Awang, used to serve in the Malaysian Armed Forces and was attached to the artillery division. Although he retired from the force about ten years ago, Awang continued making a modest living through rubber-tapping. With the little money he earned, he managed to raise all four of his children.

Unfortunately, he became partially paralysed two years ago and his three sons and daughter gave him the cold shoulder.

“My wife passed away a few years ago and my health started deteriorating. I have asthma and high blood pressure before I was struck with stroke.

“I regret spoiling my children. I even forked out RM10,000 as dowry (for them) but when I needed their help to send me to the clinic, no one came to help me. The reason was their wife didn’t allow them.

“I’ve given them cars, motorcycles and money even though I wasn’t doing well financially but when I’m paralysed, my children became strangers,” the father said.

What’s more heartbreaking is that while Awang was still staying with one of his children, he was taken to a hospital in KL for his follow-up treatment. However, little did he know at the time that the child had planned to abandon him there. For a year, he was left alone at the hospital and no one came to visit him.

“None of my children came to visit me, not even during the fasting month and Hari Raya Puasa last year. This April, I was taken here (Rumah Ehsan) and I’ve no feelings towards my children anymore.

“Even if I died, please don’t tell them because I don’t want to think about them anymore,” the father said.

We wonder how the children can sleep at night knowing their father is in anguish. Hopefully, they can bring him home after reading this article.
