A heart-wrenching yet wholesome encounter in Perak recently touched netizens after two young Malaysians stepped in to help an elderly man in desperate need.
A Threads user shared a poignant moment when she and her friend spotted an elderly man searching through trash bins for food around Pekan, Tanjung Malim.

Scraping food from the trash alongside a hungry stray
According to the user, they were driving along Jalan Persiaran Dato’ Junus Wahid near a local cafe in Pekan, Tanjung Malim when they noticed the elderly uncle picking through discarded waste looking for leftover food.
Saddened by the sight, the duo initially handed him some money so he could buy himself a meal. However, seeing that he was still scraping food directly out of the trash bin, they decided to turn back and buy proper hot meals and bottled water for him.
“If you guys happen to go around Pekan, Tanjung Malim, please help this uncle,” the user wrote on Threads. “Me and my friend saw him looking for food in the trash. My friend already gave him a bit of money to buy food, but we decided to turn back after getting some food for him.”
She also noted that a stray dog was following the uncle around, appearing equally hungry as it waited quietly beside him.

A warm meal and heartfelt gratitude
In a video shared with WORLD OF BUZZ, the friends can be seen handing over a container of a spicy fried rice (Nasi Goreng Belado) along with drinks to the elderly man.
The uncle expressed his genuine gratitude, repeatedly thanking them for their thoughtfulness while holding his meal. The duo also made sure to leave extra food for the stray dog that had been accompanying him throughout the night.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, the user, who preferred to be identified simply as ‘N’, shared that neither she nor her friend knew the uncle’s name or background, but felt compelled to help out of pure sincerity.
“My friend and I found that uncle around Jalan Persiaran Dato’ Junus Wahid in Pekan Tanjung Malim near a cafe there.
“As of now, no one has reached out to offer further help yet,” she said.
N added that she hopes sharing the story will raise awareness so that locals or welfare organizations in the Tanjung Malim area might be able to locate the uncle and offer him long-term assistance.
