Apparently, many underprivileged families in Malaysia tend to purposely have numerous children out of the notion that one of them might become rich one day and take care of the whole family. The more children they have, the higher the chances of one of them becoming wealthy one day.

This didn’t sit well for one Malaysian, who believes that such parents tend to treat the children who do not become successful, badly.

The Malaysian, who grew up in such an environment, took to the SecretsMY Twitter page to anonymously call out and urge such parents to rethink their idea of having lots of children in hopes that they become their retirement plan.

The person wrote, “As someone who grew up in a poor family with lots of children, please stop believing that your kids are your income. If you think like that, it’s like you believe your children are your retirement plan.”

“You chose to have many children and then when the children want toys, you scold them. When they enter schools and they need to pay for things, you get angry and mumble. You nitpick that your children are lazy, that they don’t help you with your work but you want money.”

The person went on to point out that children should be parents’ responsibility.

“Even though it is, in fact, the parents’ responsibility to ensure your children have everything they need. It’s not like they are asking for money to do drugs. But then when they’ve grown up and are working, suddenly you treat them well with the hope that you get lots of money every month and in hopes that they take you for your pilgrimage and everything.”

“And then when you’re old, you suddenly play the favouritism game where who gives the most money gets treated like royalty. And behind the scenes, you curse your children who are poor because they can’t give you money monthly. And you even treat your problematic children without dignity,” they added.

Overall, the person urged people to let go of this mindset and to learn family planning.

“Please, this sort of attitude needs to be changed before getting married, and after that; please take contraceptive medication because if not, pity the children who get stupid parents like you. If you are poor, don’t get married,” they ended.

It is truly saddening to know that there are many children out there whose main purpose in life is to earn money for their parents, while also having to endure difficult childhoods.

What do you think about this? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
