A Malaysian man was left shocked after he was called ‘bodoh’ (stupid) by a kitchen staff member at a restaurant in Penang, after he pointed out that the chicken tenders he ordered were cold and soggy.

According to a report by Sin Chew Daily, the man, known as Mr Lin (transliteration), visited the restaurant with his family at around 9:30 pm on Saturday (27 September). After ordering chicken tenders, he found them to be not as ‘crispy and delicious‘ as advertised.

He then took the chicken tenders to a female cashier, who then brought the chicken tenders into the kitchen, where Mr Lin suddenly heard a male kitchen staff member yell, How are these (chicken tenders) not crispy? He is really bodoh (stupid)!”

The kitchen staff had apparently yelled so loudly that the customers at the front of house could hear him. After questioning the cashier over the insult, she ultimately apologised to Mr Lin and jotted down his phone number to process a refund for the chicken tenders.

“I packed up the remaining food and immediately left the fast food restaurant with my family.”

What has been done since then

Mr Lin has since filed a formal complaint to the restaurant’s headquarters but has yet to receive a response, though he did receive a text message from the outlet’s manager informing him that the refund has been confirmed.

“Does complaining about the food mean that I deserve to be scolded?”

As of now, the restaurant has yet to make an official statement about this matter.
