Two days ago, yet another horrific accident took place, which killed two mosquito bikers in Jalan Pekan Nanas, Johor. The driver has since been remanded for four days pending investigation.

In case you’ve missed the news, the accident took place at 11pm while a group of four teens were cycling back home after practising playing the kompang at their friend’s house. Sadly, just shortly after they left the place, a car rammed into them and their bicycles were flung into the air.

Villagers who heard the news rushed to help the victims. They discovered a boy bleeding profusely on the head in a drain and another boy was found on the other side of the drain.

The third boy suffered a broken shoulder while the other victim suffered minor injuries. The two deceased victims were identified as Muhammad Amiruddin, 12, and Ibnu Ahmad, 15.

“From initial investigations, the incident happened when the driver who was coming from Ulu Pulai heading to Pekan Nanas tried to overtake another vehicle in front of him. It was raining at that time.”

“In doing so, the vehicle appeared to have crashed into the group of youths who were riding the bicycles by the road side,” district police chief Zakaria Abdul Rahman said.

The 38-year-old driver has since been remanded for four days and the case will be investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving, Zakaria added.

Once convicted, the driver may face up to 10 years of jail time and a fine between RM5,000 and RM20,000.

After this news surfaced on social media, some netizens blamed the mosquito bikers for cycling out in the dark at night, while some blamed the driver for overtaking another car in a dangerous manner.

I guess we’ll find out the truth after the police has completed their investigation. As always, stay safe on the road guys!
