There is nothing wrong with wanting to split the bill or having your partner (regardless of whether it is a guy or a girl) take care of the bill. To each its own.

But the important thing in every relationship is to be considerate and fair.

Recently, a Malaysian man anonymously took to a university confession page on Facebook to rant about how “disrespectful and embarrassing” his girlfriend was when they went out for dinner with a bunch of their friends. How?

Apparently, she “embarrassed” him by ordering the cheapest thing off the menu when really, she was just being considerate.

Menu

“My girlfriend sometimes really lacks etiquette, making me feel embarrassed in front of my friends. I’m trying to tell her not to do that again but she looked sad and tears started rolling down her eyes as if I bullied her. I’m so sick of our relationship,” he wrote.

He continued to explain that both of them had recently been fully vaccinated and were excited to finally dine in at restaurants. So, he decided to plan an outing with his friends and brought his girlfriend along as he wanted to finally introduce her to his friends.

“When we reached the mall, my friends suggested going for western cuisine. After we were seated, all of us were looking at the menu. My girlfriend said she wanted to order fish and chips. But the friend who was seated next to us said the fish and chips weren’t that good because the fish wasn’t that good. He suggested we try out the short rib instead,” he explained.

“It’s too expensive”

He went on to say that the girlfriend refused to order the short rib.

“My girlfriend told my friend, “But that is expensive”. OMG, I did not feel good. As if I can’t afford the RM60++ rib? I had been working for a year, I still can afford to have a good meal once in a blue moon. I didn’t lose my temper on the spot, but all my friends were looking at us the moment my girlfriend commented on the price,” he ranted.

“Do you know how shameful is it? She sort of humiliated me. I still tried to explain to my friends for what she had said by saying that she doesn’t like red meat.”

Fish And Chips

He then tried to convince her to try something else from the menu and assured her that she can order whatever she wants. He also pointed out that they seldom dine in so there is no issue.

“But she insisted to order her fish and chips. The moment I saw the price on the menu, then I knew why she is ordering that. Because the fish and chips were priced at RM20++, which is the cheapest! She behaved the same all the time, worried about the price, don’t want to waste money.”

He added that after she ordered the fish and chips, he decided to just not harp on it.

“They’ll think I’m a stingy boyfriend”

According to him, he felt embarrassed as he felt his friends would judge him for not splurging on his girl.

“When we were halfway eating, my friend asked me, “So, your girlfriend still ordering fish and chips?” I was really speechless, embarrassed. I tried one slice of her fish, it tasted awful, like dog food. That is why no one is ordering the fish and chips,” he said.

“My friends must think that I’m a stingy boyfriend, couldn’t even afford my girlfriend’s meal.”

Cry

He added that when they finally were done with dinner and headed back to the car, he lectured her and made her cry.

“She is always like that when we go out for a meal. I knew her family financial condition is not that good, but if she continues to behave like that, it’s hard for us to continue our relationship,” he said.

“You don’t deserve such a nice girlfriend”

Netizens took to the comment section of the post to share their thoughts and opinions on the situation. The post garnered almost 100 comments, all of which netizens told the guy that he was being ungrateful.
