As Malaysians, most of us are bound to love Durians, that undisputed “King of Fruits” that evokes strong reactions from anyone who encounters it. Either you love it or you hate it!

It looks like it’s not just us who love it though, because apparently the Chinese have also declared our very own Malaysian durians to be the best in the world. According to NST, Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Qinzhou Committee, Wang Gebing declared this and said, “Malaysia’s durians are the best in the world!” Thanks, but we knew that already right? #MalaysianPride

Wang made this statement when Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek made a courtesy call on Friday, November 3. Wang also said that the Chinese had always been fans of durians, especially Musang King and they were hoping that negotiations to export fresh durians to China would be fruitful.

Ahmad Shabery, who is in China for the highly-anticipated three-day Malaysian Durian Festival 2017 (MDF2017) in Guangxi explained that the government had decided to hold the durian festival after they found out that the Chinese loved it.

He said, “(During an earlier visit in 2016), I asked everybody I met in China: Do you like durians? I was surprised by such a positive response, which is why I proposed running a durian festival here. (On this visit), I brought along players in the durian as well as bird’s nest industries, to bring happiness and share things that we Malaysians like.”

MMO reports that five tonnes of the famed Musang King variety alongside 250 durian-related products and other fresh fruits including jackfruits and pineapples were imported to China for the festival.

Makes us feel like eating durians now! Anyone up for it?
