The management team behind the Shah Alam Expressway, also known as the KESAS Highway, has announced that cyclists are not allowed to utilise the main roads and motorcycle lanes for safety reasons.

Taking to their Facebook page, they stated this while urging the general public to adhere to road rules.

They wrote:

“Cycling on the KESAS Highway is prohibited on the motorcycle lanes and main roads. (The action of cycling on the motorcycle lanes and main roads) is risky, can disrupt traffic flow and endangers yourself and other road users.”

“Obey the rules for the well-being of all road users.”

Malaysians share their two cents on the matter

While some welcomed the rule against cyclists on the highway, others pointed out that bicycles should be allowed on the motorcycle lane, as motorcyclists often don’t use them.

One netizen also pointed out that there should be designated time frames that allow cyclists to use the highway.

Alhamdulillah, thank you, KESAS Highway. Before this, there were some times when I nearly got into accidents because of this bicycle gang, including foreign workers who use bicycles to travel to and from work.”

“Motorcyclists don’t even use the motorcycle lanes. Better to allow cyclists to use them.”

“But motorcyclists enter the KESAS Highway (main roads). There are motorcycle lanes, but they don’t use them. Just allow cyclists to use them.”
