New Year, new resolutions, new changes. For the people in Kedah, one of the first changes that some of them have to adapt to is the end of gambling and lottery ticket outlets in the state. The gambling activities in the state ceased operations on January 1, 2023, following instructions from the state government.

Ustaz Ahmad Bin Yahaya, the Head of the Dewan Ulamak PAS Pusat congratulated the Kedah government for its actions in putting an end to all gambling-related activities in the state. However, Ustaz Ahmad wants the same for the entire country, and he has a message for the Federal government.

“Gambling will NOT bring you out of poverty”

In his Facebook post last night (January 2), Ustaz Ahmad urged the Federal government to follow in the same footsteps and end all gambling-related activities in the country.

“No point to be proud when other gambling premises are still accessible to the communities in this country,” he said.

Ustaz Ahmad also said that he wants the unity government to highlight the policy that educates the people in the right humane balance guided by religion.

This is because PAS believes that the income and sources from gambling activities will not bring society out of poverty as it is just a fantasy like a mirage.

“It’s even more unfortunate when the gambling activities lead to moral collapse which disrupts family and community harmony.”

In response to the doubt that the state is able to survive following the closure of gambling premises, Ustaz Ahmad said Kedah received the highest investment in its history throughout 2021, where the state produced a series of high-impact mega projects in addition to successfully creating hundreds of thousands of job opportunities in the state.

Kedah became the 3rd state to put an end to all gambling businesses, following Kelantan & Terengganu, which are also governed by PAS.

Do you think the unity government will take Ustaz Ahmad’s suggestion and consideration? If so, how do you think it will impact the country’s economy if Malaysia is free from gambling activities?
