This has got to be the most intense and eventful general election Malaysia has ever seen! After Dato Sri Najib Razak and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad held their respective press conferences, the Johor Sultan has also issued his own statement.

Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar posted a video on his Facebook page and decreed that the voice of the people be respected. He wants the new government to be established immediately and without wasting any more time.

In the short 2-minute long video, His Majesty said first in Bahasa Malaysia and then in English states,

“To all my subjects, bangsa Johor, you must accept the voice of the people to form the government without wasting any more time. I am also looking forward to work with the new government to the best of my subjects. Therefore, the government and the Prime Minister must be appointed now without wasting any more time. I congratulate all parties that have achieved their aim.”

He added that he wants the new Prime Minister sworn in by today as it is for the rakyat’s sake and not for any individual. Pakatan Harapan had won Johor in GE14 by winning 36 out of the 56 state seats and is set to form the new state government soon.
