We’ve seen many things while driving on the road, but one thing you would rarely (in my case never) see is someone casually driving around with an entire banana tree placed in the backseat of their car.
On 28 November, a video went viral on social media where it shows a car transporting an entire banana tree in the backseat on Jalan Persiaran Utama, Mutiara Rini. In the 54-second clip, the tree can be seen causing a disturbance on the road as it pokes out both backseat windows, obstructing space on all available lanes.

According to Astro Awani, not long after the video started circulating the internet, the police contacted the car’s owner to investigate the case. Turns out, the owner of the car was in Singapore and it was his nephew who had transported the banana tree around Johor.
Iskandar Puteri district police chief ACP Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said that the 30-year-old suspect has since been fined for carrying a load with an improper vehicle.
Additionally, the suspect had over 18 overdue traffic fines, four arrest warrants and 10 ‘non-compoundable’ fines against him that are still pending as well.
The vehicle has since been seized under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for expired road tax offences and vehicles driven without a license.
