A local couple has taken social media by storm after they were discovered to be living under the Kampung Sedeng bridge in Segamat, Johor.

According to a report by Berita Harian, the Department of Social Welfare Malaysia (JKM) visited the couple at their makeshift home under the bridge and brought along contributions in the form of food supplies.

Upon seeing the couple’s living conditions, JKM decided to look for a place for them to stay, which is near their workplace.

“We agreed to rent a room located on the top floor of a shop building in Bandar Segamat, with the approval of the building owner.”

“Alhamdulillah, yesterday we managed to bring this couple in and provide them with necessities to be used for their room, in addition to providing them with essentials and equipment such as mats, blankets and mattresses,” shared Segamat district JKM officer, Mohamad Kamil Helmi Mohd Pang.

The married couple, aged 35-years-old and 30-years-old respectively, will also be given assistance in the form of RM300 a month, for a year.

“It is understood that up till today, the duo has been running a small soya bean business,” he added.

We genuinely hope that the improvement in their living conditions will push them to keep fighting through the pandemic.
