To have someone watching your children at home is certainly a burden lifted off of your shoulders, but concerns may arise sometimes when the guardian is not part of the family.

Recently, a family in Puchong had to experience one of their biggest nightmares as parents when the Indonesian maid that they hired betrayed their trust by stealing their belongings from the safety box.

She took their cash and jewelry and as if those weren’t enough, the maid decided to even kidnap their 1-year old son!

The Indonesian maid, who had no working permit, was introduced by a cleaning lady at the workplace of 1 of the family members.

Speaking to reporters at Sin Chew Daily, the uncle of the baby, Lee, said that he woke up from his nap around 3:40pm and realised that the maid and his nephew were gone.

What raised his suspicions were that there were signs that the rooms have been searched and that was when he immediately contacted the family.

Without wasting time, the family made an announcement about the disappearance of Lee’s nephew via social media which proved to be a major factor in helping to trace him back.

The viral power of social media

With the power of social media, it took the family only 3 hours before they were reunited with Lee’s nephew.

They had received a call from the owner of a shop just 3km away from their house. The owner noticed the 1-year-old wandering alone along the corner and before he could sprint onto the road, she immediately pulled him in and brought him into the store.

The members of the public who noticed the child and knew about the missing person announcement quickly contacted the family.

The whereabouts of the maid, however, remain unknown.

It was fortunate for the family to be reunited with the 1-year old as the possibilities of the consequences would have been unimaginable.
