With state election just about 1 week away, it’s only natural for candidates from all political parties to present their manifestos and convince Malaysians that promises will be kept.

However, in this case, a Malaysian decided to speak up about her fear if a particular political party wins, and she did so by telling it straight up to the candidate’s face!

“If I vote for you, can I…?”

Just this morning (August 3), Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) candidate for Sungai Puyu in Penang, Andrew Teow Chin Siang strolled around town in a campaigning effort. Little did he know, Andrew was fated to meet a woman who would not mince her words.

“If I vote for you, I’m afraid Penang will become Kedah, and I can’t wear shorts anymore.”

To convince the woman, Andrew told the woman not to worry because despite being with PAS, he is still a Chinese and issues about attire, gambling and others are merely a tool by DAP to “hype things up” and elevate the misconception, reported Sin Chew.

Andrew was in fact not taken aback by the woman’s reaction because he understood where the concerns were coming from.

Another report by China Press said that the concerns regarding attire were raised the most when he was campaigning. Despite so, he remained calm, saying,

“I understand, and I will patiently explain to them.”

Andrew also said that PAS welcomes everyone in the party, even if you’re not a Muslim. He added that he was convinced that he will be able to secure the votes from the Chinese voters, especially after they noticed PAS is a mixed-race political party.

In case you missed it, a boutique owner in Kelantan was fined last month for wearing shorts in her workplace. The issue has since been resolved.

Penang has been known as the stronghold of Pakatan Harapan for many years. Do you think PN stands a chance to take over the state this time?
