As a food delivery rider, there are often obstacles and dangers which they have to face on a daily basis.

A Foodpanda rider recently shared his experience of nearly being attacked by a tiger whilst he was out delivering food.

In an interview with Sinar Harian, Mohd Shafiq Mamat said that the incident happened on Wednesday night (9 March) around Taman Bersekutu at Kampung Paya Dusun, Dungun, Terengganu.

“The incident happened around 8:30pm when I was on my way back home in Taman Permint Indah which is located about 3km from the scene,” he explained.

“I’m not sure where the tiger came from because all of a sudden it was already 5m behind me and I continued to accelerate the speed of the motorcycle for another 100 metres.”

I didn’t expect the animal to chase until it was right next to my motorcycle. I managed to look at the tiger and it looked as if it wanted to pounce on me,” he said.

Mohd Shafiq, who has been working as a food delivery rider for almost two years, said the incident was the most horrible experience he has ever had while working as one. He reported his experience on a Facebook post.

“Before, being chased by a dog was normal. This time being chased by a tiger is quite unusual and horrible. All night I could not sleep thinking about what happened to me. I already feel scared to go through the area. However, I do not want to refuse any orders if I have to go that road again,” he said.

He said that he had notified the incident to the Taman Bersekutu Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) and a report had been made to the Terengganu Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) for further action.

Meanwhile, Terengganu’s Wildlife Director Loo Kean Seong said that the department’s staff had gone to the scene to investigate and monitor.
