An elderly married couple was killed after their motorcycle was struck by a car that reportedly lost control along Jalan Ampang, near Gleneagles Hospital in Kuala Lumpur. The driver of the car is alleged to have been intoxicated at the time of the collision.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:34 AM yesterday (3 May). The 61-year-old rider and his 56-year-old wife were pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining severe head injuries.

Details of the fatal collision

Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, Chief of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, confirmed that the accident involved a single motorcycle and one car.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the car, driven by a 24-year-old man, lost control before crashing into the rear of the victims’ motorcycle. As a result of the impact, both the husband and wife sustained fatal head injuries,” he said in a statement, as reported by Berita Harian.

The driver is suspected of being intoxicated

The driver and two passengers in the car also sustained injuries. The driver and a 23-year-old front-seat passenger suffered head injuries and are currently receiving treatment in the “Red Zone” of Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

ACP Mohd Zamzuri noted that the driver is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol. While he remains under medical care at HKL, police have collected blood and urine samples for analysis by the Chemistry Department.

The rear passenger, a 24-year-old man, sustained cuts to his lips and tongue. He has since been discharged and has provided a statement to the police to assist with the ongoing investigation.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Members of the public or witnesses who may have information regarding the incident are urged to contact the Tun HS Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or visit their nearest police station.
