It’s not every day that you meet a friendly public servant who goes above and beyond to fulfill their duty! This woman from Negeri Sembilan had the fortune of seeing a dedicated fireman in action, when he extended his own hand into a toilet bowl to fish out her missing keys for her!

It all started this past February 21, when the woman was fetching her father to Kuala Pilah Hospital for a follow-up consultation. As reported by Sin Chew, once she dropped her father off and parked her car, nature called and she made a dash for the nearest washroom. As she stood up to flush, the keys she had left in her pocket fell into the toilet bowl! A nightmare for more reasons than one, if you catch our drift.

Panicking, the woman ran outside the toilet and asked for the janitors’ help to see if she could find any tools to hook or grab hold of the keys. When that didn’t work, she called up her daughter in Seremban to find a set of spare keys and deliver them to Kuala Pilah. As a backup, she also reached out to her friends living in the neighbourhood.

After over an hour of frantically looking for solutions, the woman spotted three young firemen, who happened to be dining at the hospital’s canteen. She went up to them and asked how they might go about retrieving keys from a toilet bowl. Turns out it was also their first time hearing of such an occurrence!

Despite their lack of experience, the firemen were determined to help. At first, they suggested getting a magnet from a hardware store to extract the keys. The woman heeded their suggestion and started calling her friends to help her find one.

While waiting for her friends to respond, the firemen decided to take things into their own hands, literally. Two of the three young men removed their uniform jacket, and one of them proceeded to make his way into the toilet cubicle. According to the woman, she said,

“At first, he asked me whether I had flushed, and I said no, as I was afraid of flushing the keys away as well. As soon as he heard that, he didn’t even flinch, and put his hands into the toilet bowl right away. He almost stuck his entire head in there too, all so that he could help me get the keys.”

His efforts did not go to waste, as lo and behold, he got the keys back! The incident moved the woman so much, she likened them to ‘three generals who were sent down from above’. You can clearly tell the keys were very important to her!

Once the keys had been thoroughly cleaned, she requested a photo with the three Good Samaritans who had saved her day. One of the firemen also asked for a photo, as evidence to show their supervisor why they were late to return to their prior engagement. Helpful and responsible, to boot! The woman was more than happy to oblige, adding that she will pay their supervisor a visit and commend them in person.

Looks like a classic case of ‘all’s well that ends well’! We’re so happy that the woman found these firemen when she did, and hope that this noble incident will inspire us all to go the extra mile to help our fellow Malaysians!
