Recently, Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang shared a statement on his official Facebook page that claimed that the majority of those involved in bribery and corruption are non-Muslims and non-Bumiputera people.

In his statement, he wrote, “It is the same with efforts to deal with the disease of corruption, it must be done holistically so that it does not become an epidemic when action is taken that is not comprehensive to the root. In particular, against those who are the cause of corruption for pursuing illegal wealth.”

“So much so, that is is among them who control the country’s economy and use it to destroy politics, administrative affairs and the judiciary. In fact, they are also the biggest groups that damage the country’s politics and economy, the majority of them from non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras.”

Following this, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng took to his Twitter page to announce that the Democratic Action Party (DAP) will lodge a police report against the PAS leader over his statement.

“DAP will be lodging a police report against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for his recent statement claiming non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras were at the root of corruption in the country,” he shared.

Additionally, DAP Chairman Lim Guan Eng also spoke out in regards to the statement, sharing that it damages the unity of the people. He further said that Abdul Hadi’s accusation is ‘ridiculous’ and baseless as the 1MDB corruption case and the littoral combat ship (LCS) scandal were not caused by non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras.

Additionally, he revealed that because the majority of civil officials belong to the same race, most corruption charges involving government organisations likewise include members of the same race.

Stay tuned for more updates.
