There are many things which we don’t see everyday when living in a concrete jungle. After all, buildings aren’t natural habitats for many animals.

So, naturally when a cow was spotted waiting to enter an APARTMENT building in the middle of Singapore, people were extremely shocked.

Pictures of a man holding onto the cow via a leash at the lift lobby of block 506B in Yishun went viral. The cow could also be seen walking into the elevator along with the man.

What modern cow, riding an elevator and all…

According to STOMP, seeing cows in apartment buildings around Singapore is very rare but not uncommon. This is because Hindus have the tradition of bringing the sacred animal into their new homes to bless it.

It is a long time tradition whereby the animal will be brought around the house and every spot the cow visits will be blessed.

Barak told the media the whooping cost of getting the animal just for one short house visit.

“It is around $1,000 to $1,500 (RM3,156 to RM4,734).

“If the cow urinates in the house that means it is very good and they believe it is a good blessing.”

The more you know.

But being in a concrete jungle like Singapore, where can one acquire a cow?

Well, for those who wish to bring a cow into their homes for the sake of this ritual must first inform a dairy farm. A permit from the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority is also required for the cow to be taken out of the farm.

Then, a staff will visit the location and check on the lift’s measurements and maximum load, and the size of the house to determine which cow to send out.

Apparently, each cow has their own person-in-charge too.

So as shocking as it is to see a cow inside an apartment building, it isn’t that weird after all due to cultures and traditions. Singapore is much like Malaysia in a sense where we have diverse cultures mixed in one community.
