One would think that if we want to do something bad or illegal, we would try our best to avoid being seen. Not these two robbers though…

Yesterday, closed circuit camera (CCTV) footage busted 2 criminals and led to them being arrested by the police 8 hours after stealing 3 gold bracelets from a gold shop in the Tandop, Alor Setar.

The two 24-year-old suspects were arrested at 8pm after being successfully tracked down  in the residential area of Perwaja Gurun, Kuala Muda.

Kota Setar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Shukri Mat Akhir said the 2 local men were successfully arrested by members of the intelligence operation of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Kota Setar District Police Headquarters (IPD). They did it based on information and intelligence obtained.

He said the suspect initially pretended to buy jewellery at the gold shop at about 11.30am yesterday.

Ahmad Shukri said that the crime was caught on CCTV installed at the business premises. Consequently, the Criminal Investigation Division’s operation team consisting of 2 senior officers and 10 members tried to track down the suspect.

He said based on the information obtained and the intelligence carried out, the 2 suspects were then arrested in the Perwaja Gurun housing estate.

“Police have also seized 2 of the 3 gold bracelets believed to have been stolen in the incident along with a sum of cash.”

“The 2 suspects were then brought back to IPD Kota Setar for further action and the case was investigated according to Section 380 of the Penal Code,” he said.

Netizens mock the robbers

On Facebook, some netizens mock the robbers for their stupidity.

“That’s so stupid. The CCTV is right in your face. It’s different if you have a disguise and your face can’t be seen.”
