Last week, it was announced that those planning to balik kampung over the weekend would be treated to a toll-free journey starting at 12am on 30 April.

Seeking to utilise this benefit, cars in Penang could be seen lining up by the roadside just before the Juru toll booth, before midnight.

The Penang Kini TikTok page shared a video of the incident.

Wait 1

In the dashboard camera footage, cars could be seen waiting or midnight by the side of the road in a long line just outside the Juru toll booth.

Wait 3

Netizens have since shared their amusement over the matter, with some pointing out that those waiting for midnight had to then endure massive traffic jams.

Wait 8

“Save on toll but finish the money on petrol while stuck in traffic jam. Smart citizens.”

Wait 6

“No wonder there was no traffic jam earlier. (Everyone was) waiting for 12am.”

Wait 5

“Malaysians are weird, people would normally prefer to arrive early at their hometowns. These guys are willing to wait on the tolls.”

Wait 4

Someone also pointed out that they might have waited for no reason.

Wait 7

“There’s no need to wait for 12am. We left at 11pm and still it was toll-free. Alhamdulillah, there was no traffic jam.”
